The Affectionate Heart of God

I love how God works. I adore Him and am deeply moved by His affections for me. In the past weeks the Lord has showed me wonderful things: HE is the author and perfecter of my faith, meaning that all the faith I have is evidence of the Father taking up residence in my spirit and spreading outward! He is writing the words of the Bible, His words, His love letter to us, in me. He chases me down, holds me tight, and disperses His love- light through my whole being. He speaks to me of the life He wants to offer me and that all of His love is ALREADY mine. If there is anything I have learned about the heart of God recently, it is that His is one of great affection for His people.

How much joy it has brought me to see Him come more alive in my life! He has once again allowed me to experience a greater depth of the intimacy He offers. As He sanctifies me to Himself, I find Him molding my heart, prayers, joys, and sorrows to match His own. It makes me sit in awe and relief, that He does all the “heavy lifting” and all I have to do is love Him. What a Savior, my Friend, the one who is forever my Beloved. Who am I that I get to love and be loved by such a perfect and wonderful God? Makes my heart flutter. And all He wants from me is my love! Yes Lord, you can have it all, help me give it to you always.

I see His affection for us in the smell of a flower garden, in the soft pink petals of a rose and in the countless sun flowers that line my everyday routes. I see it in my cat Boots, in his constant desire for my attention and touch, and in his calm purr. I see Jesus’ affection in the hugs, smiles, laughs, and kisses of His people. I see it when my dad tells me that he loves me, and I feel it in those slow country love songs outside on summer evenings. I see it most in the gracefulness of yellow butterflies. The affectionate heart of the Lord shines in so many places, yet it is so subtle that you only see it if He shows you. I love His gifts, especially the gift of His own heart. Show me more, Jesus! Let us praise you for all that you are.

“One thing I ask of the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord, and to seek Him in His temple.”

Psalm 27:4 NIV

Keep moving in me Jesus. Search me and know my heart, cast out any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting!
